Beach Bon Fire and Drum Circle
Saturday, July 14th 2007
Corona Del Mar State Beach

A few of us are planning to arrive around 1 pm to stake out a fire ring, so if you wish, come and play in the sun.

We have a grill and will start charcoal around 6pm. Bring your own meat and beverage (state beaches are dry), and something to share. Makings for s’mores will be available.

After people are done cooking we will add wood to the coals for our evening bonfire. If you can, bring some firewood. Please, no pallets or other treated wood. These can be toxic.

Also bring something to sit on, extra layers in case you get cold, and a flashlight for packing to leave. The beach closes at 10 pm, it is dark, and the walk to the car is always farther than you remembered. For your own sake, travel light.

Directions: From the Coast Hwy. 1, North or South bound, turn towards the ocean at Marguerite. Turn Right on Ocean, the entrance to the beach is on the left. Parking is $10 on weekends. You may unload at the bottom of the hill and go back up to park free on nearby streets, if it is worth the hike to you. We will have a big yellow wagon and a blue beach umbrella at one of the fire rings.

I want to be able to give this out to folks who are interested in communtity drum events here at the folk music center. I called the Claremont Forum and was sad to learn that the village Mandala drum circle no longer meets there. Where do you meet now and is it ok if I put the information on a flyer to hang up at the Folk Music Center?

VM / Bardic drum circle at the beach - July 13th or 14th

Hey all,

The bardic circle I'm in is planning on having a drum circle at the beach in July . I'd love to make it a Village Mandala special event as well.

Normal our circles are scheduled for evening of the 2nd Friday of the month. In July, that's the 13th - so auspicious, and someone's birthday, to boot! If I hear that's a problem for a number of VM drummers, I can lobby for moving it to Saturday the 14th in the late afternoon and evening. We already have a volunteer to camp on a fire ring for us, so we can have a bonfire.

Our bardic doesn't ask a fee, but bringing snacks to share is appreciated.

So let me know if one day or the other is especially preferred.

I'm looking forward to all those good vibes on a Wed. night in Claremont. I'll be LA tomorrow, Aug. 8th pm. Then heading down to Mom's for a bit.

I'll have some Saroyan finger cymbals for sale at cost, if anyone is interested-really got them to bring back to Spain, but if any of you......
And in addition to the 5 sacred symbol necklaces I made last year, I have 4 new designs. A turtle with a spiral shell, snake, sun and the infinte symbol with spiral.

Harpy Halloween

Hey all,

I was so jazzed about accompanying a dancer at the MECDA Halloween party on Saturday. However, due to lack of rehearsal time, she's more comfortable doing a piece she already knows to canned music. For a moment I felt like my prom date had cancelled on me.

So now - especially after kind encouragement from Dulce - I'm hoping to get another performance slot, if anyone would care to improvise a veil dance or somesuch to my Majnooneh Talia piece this Saturday. (There's an MP3 of it, without drums, at http://www.roseharp.com/files/majnooneh_talia.mp3 .) And perhaps Vern and Andy will kindly provide rhythm. :)

I can't make drum circle this Wednesday - am in the middle of the review class for my massage certification - but I could be available to rehearse Thursday or Friday nights or Saturday late morning.

Village Mandala Moving

Still I do not know the day that the Forum will be moving, but I am looking forward to changes for Village Mandala. I fantasize about a nice wood dance floor and cool environment. Lately, we have had a lot more dancers with so much to share and I would like to have this continue. Besides being able to freely and openly express ourselves through dancing with each other and live drummers, it is a blessing to learn new technique and steps from all of you who come to play. Possible, Vernon says we may be changing evenings, so we will keep everyone posted here and at Village Mandala at Yahoo groups

Pagan Prom: Midnight at the Oasis

Please join Touchstone Local Council for an evening of dancing, live entertainment, middle eastern food and exotic atmosphere. Don your harem pants and veils and dance the night away to contemporary music, sit back and be entertained by beautiful belly dancers, and have your picture taken with a camel! This event will feature all the music that you like to dance to, mixed in with some special Middle Eastern Rhythms. Professional Belly Dancers from around our Inland Empire will be featured at the top of each hour.

Tickets are available at the door for $15/person and $25/couple. Souvenir photographs, Mediterranean finger foods and beverages will be available. We ask that those in attendance be 21 years or older.

This year's annual event will be at the Gabrielle Mulvane Community Center located at 860 Gilbert St.,
San Bernardino, on June 3, 2006 from 8:00 pm to 12:00 pm. Proceeds from this fundraising event go toward supporting local community events, sponsoring the Inland Empire Pagan Pride Day in September, and presenting an annual Yule celebration in December.

Village Mandala and Shahira & Tamara at Candlelight Pavilion

Dear All 17 regular and irregular Villagers , Out of towners and new to the Circlers, What a fun event full of spontaneity and laughter, that is, for us being hushed backstage in Claremont. Last night's performance was later and longer than expected, but that is the nature of community volunteering. I pray that all of the funds raised are so blessed that they find their way to the folks who need it the most. It was like play group trading clothing to costume everyone up, hope we will have some photographic evidence, my cheap disposable cameras sometimes take a shot, I swear when finances are bettere we will invest in a good digital. But Joanne had a cool camera, we were all performing, though. So Big Foot could have danced and we would not have documentation. Vernon was a vision in Royal purple and gold, A Wendy Oliver choice, Blessings. Shahira was gorgeous and luminous ( very last minute notice) and ever the professional with a coy smile and moves that always amaze me. Tammy went air gliding through the audience in her impossible to describe signature lovliness. Her hips move in a way that in mortals produce snaps, crackles and agony. The Drummers, the shakers , the dance-movers were spirited and eating up the challenge of no time, no rehearsal, just show up and do what you do BEST! But you did and I THANK YA. Each and everyone of you. And The Other Roses and Villagers who stayed behind having Drum Circle , lighting and unlighting candles , cleaning up and dance rehearsal for next Saturday's filming. We missed you, but Goddess willing there will be a next time soon. Love, Vic

Bellydancing at the Monte Cristo

This Friday from 9pm to 2am, the Monte Cristo has invited us to come drum and dance! There's a $10 cover, but if you say you are with the bellydancers or are in tribal gear, you get in for free! There will be live DJs, plus performances by Ted Shed of the Vamphear Circus, Carol Tatum of "Angels of Venice", and of course, us! Join us at the Monte Cristo, at 3100 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles for a night of drumming, dancing, and debauchery! Come to hang out, make friends, and infiltrate the LA club scene!
